Paris Commercial Court fines Google 1 M for abuse of dominant position

In a judgment handed down on 10 February, the Paris Commercial Court ordered Google Ireland to pay the directory assistance information operator Oxone more than one million euros in damages. The court believes that the company was guilty of anti-competitive practices by suspending the operator’s advertisements several times and then changing its terms and conditions to no longer allow advertisements for directory information services. Google “has a clear interest in eliminating any company that allows telephone contact that competes with its own products. The implementation of this rule must therefore be seen as an anti-competitive manoeuvre,” the court said. Google will appeal the decision
